Arron Gibson’s final year of New Media Studies at Ryerson University in 2006 saw him take on the task of realizing the vision of The Listening Line. This thesis project nearly cost him his final year of studies.
In the early days of the project the vision was to build a river indoors, to have stories float down the river, and to require that participants immerse themselves in the river in order to hear the sounds.
Partway through the year, Arron realized that pulling that off would require either a miracle or a grant. Rather than attempt the unattainable, Arron saw that the idea could be transplanted into another vessel, so he set to work on distributing the premise of TLL to other media.
The Home Edition and its companion, The Exhibition Edition, during their showing at RU’s year end showcase, Max Ex, garnered the inaugural Gallery TPW: Emerging Artist Award.
Since then Arron has been working for his new media company, Infinity Media Services Inc. He enjoys creating standards compliant web design and Javascript applications as well as pushing the boundaries of online UI. A musician and avid music fan, he is currently immersed in his next creative feat of writing as many songs as he can in one year.
